Combating Loneliness: The Power of Volunteering

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

Loneliness affects people of all ages and backgrounds.

In Darlington, about 19% of referrals to our social prescribing team are due to loneliness.

Past research showed 27% of people aged 16 and over reported feeling lonely some, often, or all the time. Also, 33% of those aged 65 or over live alone, increasing their risk of loneliness.

Volunteering offers a powerful antidote to loneliness

Volunteers can connect with others, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to their communities, all while gaining new skills and experience.

Darlington Cares’ Volunteering Fair will bring around 50 organisations to the Dolphin Centre, offering a wealth of exciting opportunities for those looking to give something back. Come along and see how volunteering can transform lives, including your own.

Together, we can combat loneliness and build a stronger, more connected community!
