Weight Loss Injections
Wegovy, Ozempic, Saxenda – Semaglutamide, Liraglutide
Please be aware that at the present time, weight loss injectables are not currently available on prescription via Primary Care (GP services).
For patients who meet the eligible, patients will require a referral to a specialist weight management service.
At present Ozempic is only licenced for use in the management of type 2 diabetes and cannot be prescribed off-label for weight loss.
Please be assured that work is being progressed with local specialist weight management services and other stakeholders to implement the new NICE guidelines for Semaglutide injections. Patients will be updated regarding available services within the next few months.
NICE has recommended semaglutide as an option, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, within specialist weight management services, to people with at least one weight-related co-morbidity and a body mass index (BMI) of at least 35kg/m2 or between 30kg/m2 – 34.9kg/m2 who meet the defined criteria for referral to specialist services.
